Depression or being depressed has many reasons or symptoms. But very few people know how to detect or diagnose it. Hence, most of the times one may miss out on important signs which indicate the existence of depressive feelings or emotions in an individual.
There are many such symptoms which show or indicate that the individual is under depression. Some of them are listed below:
SADNESS AND LOW MOOD LEVELS
Constant sadness and low mood levels is an indication of a depressive mood and commencement of depression in the mind and body. Here only sadness governs the mind and there is no space for positivity in the mind and thought processes.
FEELING OF HOPELESSNESS
Individuals start feeling hopeless and pessimism strikes in the mind and anxiety enters the body. Negative thoughts govern the mind and positivity seems lost. As also feeling of guilt and worthlessness follows these thoughts sway through mood swings in the mind of the individual.
The mind is fatigued along with the body due to all negative and pensive thoughts. A depressed person might look stressed out completely for no other reason other than thoughts floating in the mind.
Sleeplessness, oversleeping or under sleeping on a continuous basis causes insomnia and invites depression to enter the mind and the body. Insomnia generally occurs due to the negative thoughts, stress or trauma affecting the mind.
FRUSTRATION AND IRRITATION
A depressed person is highly irritated or frustrated and doesn’t talk or communicate properly. The person wants to continuously retreat to solitude such that all the anger and frustration can be hidden and engulfed by the body itself. High levels of temper are also seen in individuals going through depression. However, there is no particular reason for such anger or temper and is purely caused due to mood swings.
A depressed person cannot be at peace or rest and hence restlessness in the mind and the body. There is constant mood swing and there is no control over the thoughts.
LACK OF INTEREST
Individuals begin to lose interest in the activities, things or people they used to enjoy with or spend time with. Losing interest in watching movies or meeting with friends or even losing interest in sexual activities, is a symptom of depression.This is also a sign of pensive mood.
APPETITE LOSS OR OVEREATING
Losing appetite immensely and untimely eating of meals are bad for the health as well as the mind as the body can turn obese or diabetic and the mind depressed or into depression. As also overeating due to tension or trauma can make things go worse and harm the health by making it fat and obese.
BODY ACHES OR PAINS
One can face immense body aches or pains due to depression or extensive sleeping habits as well as unsound sleep habits. Stress and trauma are the other factors which contribute to body ache and pain in the body.
CONCENTRATION AND DECISION MAKING WITH A FORGETFUL MIND
Depressive thoughts and a depression stricken mind shall also affect the concentration levels and decision-making abilities of the mind. The mind seems to be out of focus when in depression. Hence one also becomes forgetful and tends to forget things one said or promised or committed. The memory turns fragile.
DIGESTIVE OR GUT DISORDERS
Depression also leads to digestive or gut disorders as after-effects of loss of appetite or overeating. There are severe stomach aches and leaky gut disorders which follow suit.
ANXIETY PANGS AND PANIC ATTACKS
Constant anxiety and panic attacks are also symptoms of depression which may occur due to some kind of trauma of the past or stress.
SUICIDAL OR SELF-HARMING THOUGHTS
Harming self through a blade or suicidal thoughts are all signs of self-harm. Generally, anxiety stricken individuals get such thoughts of harming themselves due to negative thoughts and low morale and mainly a highly disturbed mind which has become depressed due to stress and trauma.
Depression is never a choice or an option and may come due to some past stress or trauma which gets triggered over time. Depressed people require a lot of love and care to get healed from the thoughts.
