As pregnancy and childbirth are beautiful, they are tender and delicate at the same time. Due to busy lifestyles and stress, we tend to forget to take care of most of the things for a to-be mother. Hence, one should know what things are to be avoided during pregnancy.
Here are some pregnancy tips and don’ts that need to be followed during pregnancy and are enlisted below:
AVOID ACUPUNCTURE AND MASSAGE
Acupuncture and massage during pregnancy should be avoided as it does more harm to the body then benefit. Research reads that the belly should not be massaged in the first three months of pregnancy.
However, if acupuncture is being taken then, it should be done by a certified acupuncturist and the acupuncturist should also be aware that the patient is pregnant such that some of the pressure points which are harmful, can be avoided.
CATS AND KITTENS
Cat litter or faeces include a parasite known as Toxoplasma Gondii causing a disease known as toxoplasmosis which is quite evident in birds, mammals and humans as well. Toxoplasmosis can lead to miscarriages, as also blindness and brain damage in an unborn baby.
SANITATION AND HYGIENE PRODUCTS
Sanitation products like phenyl or toilet cleaners come with disclaimers of hazard and caution. These should be read and seen whether they are pregnancy friendly or not.
When using glue, paints or any other household chemicals in the home, there should be plenty of fresh air such that the smell does not affect the body of the mother.
Sanitation and hygiene products contain naphthalene, which in excess amounts shall damage blood cells leading to a disease known as haemolytic anaemia. As also can cause, nausea, fatigue, loss in appetite, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Excessive naphthalene can also damage blood cells of newborn babies.
HIGH-INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING
Women in pregnancy are not suggested for a high and intensive cardiovascular training as it includes workout of the whole body. During pregnancy exercises like walking or swimming for 30 minutes are advisable for avoiding problems like back or waist aches, varicose veins or blood clots.
AVOID EXPOSURE TO THE SUN
An expecting mother or a lady in her pregnancy should avoid exposure to the sun as sun rays penetrate deep into the skin which may cause harm to the skin. Using fake tan lotions or sprays instead shall help in restoring the colour or tone of the skin.
Fake tan lotions contain DHA elements which help in restoring the melanoids and repair the skin as compared to high powered sunscreen lotions as the skin of a lady being tender and sensitive.
Food should be fresh and homemade and stale food should be avoided during pregnancy. Stale food can be dangerous and harmful to the mother and the baby. As also processed food and beverages need to be avoided.
Hair colour or hair dyes contain ammonia and other harmful chemicals which affect the hair and the body differently.
The hair already acts differently due to pregnancy, hair colour may do more harm to the hair and the body.
Hair colouring or styling it with chemicals also affect breastfeeding as the chemicals seep into the bloodstream and affect the baby while feeding and the mother’s hair.
RENOVATION OR PAINTING THE HOUSE
Research reads that renovation or painting of the house should be avoided till the 14th week of the pregnancy because the paints and renovation may enunciate limestone and lead content in the air and is harmful to kids as well as for pregnant women. Lead and limestone content also affects infants which breastfeed.
STEAM, SAUNA OR JACUZZI
Women in pregnancy, feel a lot more warm than usual due to increase in blood flow. Hence, taking a steam or sauna or a bath in a Jacuzzi should be avoided.
Radiation therapies should be avoided completely as radiation contains powerful rays which can affect the baby. X-rays are not required during pregnancy, one should only stick to sonography. As also dental x-ray should be done under supervision, such that it does not affect the mother and the child.
